My objective paintings are predominantly in watercolour and have originated from something or someone in my immediate environment which has made me stop, look and linger over what I am seeing or feeling. Often it is the pattern of light and colour which appeal to be looked at more intensely. The Antarctic series, for instance, is about the magnitude and beauty of the most powerful environment I have been in.

Most recently I have gone back to large acrylics on canvas. The non-objective abstracts are about being in the moment – a response to an idea or emotion which I translate into colour, line, shape and texture. I enjoy working in this way where there is a greater freedom and an element of physicality. The titles hint at my inspiration but are not confining to any particular meaning. I always enjoy that moment when I decide there is nothing I can do to improve on the piece and the painting is finished.
